LED TV Benefits

There are currently two options if you are considering getting a new LED TV.

The first option is to go for an Edge Lighting LED TV. In such sets the LED lighting only occupies the area right at the extremes of the screen. You needn’t worry though because LED lighting is very efficient and even with only small strips of LED lights, the backlight does get evenly distributed all over the screen area. The only slight downside is that blacks can appear not to be really dark…although it is hardly noticeable.

Next we have Full Array LED TV. This is where the LED lights are arranged in rows across the entire back surface of the screen. There is a major advantage in Full Array in that the TV can actually manage the picture by individual LED light. This does though, make such sets more expensive.

Full Array sets boast “local dimming”. This is a much touted feature that actually turns off the LED lights that comprise a black area of the picture. The result is that you get ultra-dark blacks and of course a stunning level of contrast that make the color areas look even brighter. If you haven’t witnessed full array LED with local dimming, make sure you do before you make your buying decision.

There is no doubt that LED TV technology has moved on over the last year in particular. Consequently the price is starting to fall and more people are adopting LED. There are some great deals to be had if you look around.

The only issue with buying online can be long delivery lead times, so check this out if you’re going to buy online. However, you can save up to 10-15% but make sure you consider the following questions.

Is the price inclusive of delivery, if not what will delivery cost? Is the TV covered by warranty or does that need to be purchased? What’s the included guarantee like? What is the expected lifespan of your new TV? Is the set environmentally friendly (most LED TV sets are)?

Certainly there are deals to be had, but make sure you know the fine detail of what’s included. Do you research thoroughly and I know you can get a really good deal on your new LED TV.

LED TV technology continues to move on apace. New functionality is added all the time for example Internet Apps and integral wi-fi (you should always try and get integral wi-fi on any new LED TV). And, new 480Hz sets are starting to appear in the 3D TV space.

Some of the advances, though, don’t always get the positive publicity the manufacturers expect. Take 480 Hz screen refresh. Some industry commentators are suggesting its too good…too detailed and is showing up flaws in CGI and badly made sets. And 3D image blur is still an issue to varying degrees, especially for fast action towards the corner of the screen. However, things continue to improve.

Yes, there is still the odd issue with LED TV. However, if you compare what you get now to the early HD sets, the experience is so far superior it is tough to make a comparison in all honesty. The level of features included nowadays offers you the chance to make your TV a true home media centre, even more so with wi-fi now included, streaming content from a huge number of sources.

So, LED TV is on the up curve and that will continue for the foreseeable future. With better technology and certainly a better viewing experience and a longer life, now is a great time to invest in LED, and of course most new sets now offer you 3D as well.
