Usually male ants have shorter life spans then females.

Every ant colony has an organized hierarchy. It consists of males, females and workers. Every colony contains several million ants. When a colony reaches its maximum capacity, the winged males and females fly away and start a new colony elsewhere. The males and females mate during the flight.

The queen ant is the head of the colony. After she lays her eggs to start the new colony, she will shed her wings. Remarkably, the queen ant mates only once. The sperm from that union is used for years to produce thousands of offspring. Each ant knows their place in the colony. They have elaborate social structures in which the various jobs are divided among the different ants. The ants are colored in different shades of green, blue, purple and yellow depending on the kind of work they perform. When I ask some one what they think of when the think of a chiropractor the answer is usually the same. “Bone doc’s”, “bone crunchers” and many other fun names. In all reality this is fairly far from the truth. “Doctors of the nervous system” would be a more accurate representation of what it is chiropractors are. How is this you ask? Well to answer that question I will need to dive a little deep into some neurology, but I promise to bring it back around for every one.

When a joint in the body becomes stuck because of injury, poor posture, yard work, etc… it creates a chain reaction. This “joint fixation” or area that is stuck, will decrease the rate of firing of the joint mechanoreceptor in turn decreasing the rate of firing of the large diameter 1A fibers of the nerve. This decrease of the rate of firing decreases the inhibition of C fibers, or the pain fibers of the nerve which will increase activity of these C fibers. This process leads to an increase in pain. Whew…OK now that we have that out of the way…

To reverse this process you have to increase the frequency of firing of the joint mechanoreceptors, this increasing firing of the 1A fibers, which then inhibits transmission to the C fibers all leading to a decrease in pain!
