You Are Starting a Non-profit

I understand, for the 1st time or maybe the hundredth time, you have had an epiphany in the way you can change the world and want to begin starting a nonprofit. After being awake all night thinking about all the methods your new idea will change thousands of hurting people’s lives, you start searching the web on how to do non-profit work organization and make it a reality. You choose to start a shiny new non profit organisation and give your life to its service. In your search, you might have come across an article that cautioned you in starting a nonprofit that’s new, telling you how many fail or encouraging you to join up with an already existing non profit that is targeted on an identical idea. Now daunted, you keep looking for how you can continue starting a nonprofit wishing that someone will encourage you that it can be done. I am the hope that you are searching for that may inspire you and help you in your search in simply starting a nonprofit.

Starting a non profit and running it successfully is not going to be the easiest thing you will ever do, nevertheless it is most probably the most inspiring thing. I like to think that starting a nonprofit and running it successfully can be relatively straightforward. You need to remember starting a nonprofit organization is in essence beginning a new business, so there’s some work that comes with its start-up. Having been involved in non-profit work for over 15 years, I have seen many begin though starting a nonprofit only to be devastated and give up part way through. Anything that’s worth doing is worth doing right, and equally, worth the effort. The work to beginning a nonprofit are not hard. One step you might look at is to start a nonprofit thru a fiscal sponsor that might turn out to be way easier than creating an independent non-profit.

Everywhere one turns today there are stories of disaster, tragedy, and human loss of life and has many looking at those starting a nonprofit. In this continually changing world, one can wonder where the goodness still resides. Disaster looms around each corner; yet, among all the stories of gloom is a tale of the overall good being woven. Stories that are woven from the fabric of history where good wins over bad. Found in this same fabric, are the elements of which fairy tales are taken. Now at a time where many fairy tales are paused, this fabric weaves hope to every corner of the Earth.

I suspect everybody wants to be a part of the unending story where good overcomes atrocity. The age has come where everyone is invited into the larger story. The tale of helping people who need help. I am contacted daily by those wanting to make a contribution in the world. The only thing standing between them and their dreams is direction and starting a non profit. Don’t let an elementary action like some paperwork get in the middle of you and impacting the globe in a meaningful way. Start a nonprofit and change the globe.

Inside Out Starting a Non Profit

Published by Scott Michael Ringo on August 18th, 2011 - in Non-Profit

Non Profit Incorporation Explained

Non profit incorporation for many is a daunting proposition and is susceptible to taking people on a wild goose chase across the Net and cost them way more than obligatory. A method to avoid the problems and wasted expense is to consider starting a nonprofit from the interior out when creating the non profit and the task will be much easier. Non profit incorporation from the interior out is a sure way to cut back the time and cost in the creation of a non profit 501c3 as I will explain below.

Non Profit Incorporation Outside In

Many, when beginning a non profit incorporation, start by filling out key documents to establish their non-profit, costing them pricey charges. Compiling the info and process they have to create the nonprofit can take a long and exhausting toll on the founders. Once the nonprofit is formed, they begin working on their branding and continue on to ]fund-raising. When they have established some greatness in fund raising and charity work the programs are rolled out and nonprofit work begins. In this example, those starting the non profit incorporation are starting from the outside and working in. The downsides of this method are numerous. First, the creation of the nonprofit in this example can become very daunting, costly, time consuming and even convice the founders the reward of making a nonprofit is not actually worth the challenges. Second, many occasions when charities are made in this way the nonprofit paperwork is put in place with only a limited notion of what the nonprofit will ultimately be engaged in. This could require redoing key documents and even programs in the future. Yes, the nonprofit is established although not necessarily in a way that is as easy or stable as it could be.

Non Profit Incorporation Inside Out

I think it is best to work from the interior out when building a non profit incorporation. By working from the inside to the outside it is way easier to create the non-profit with all the facets thought out so that once the non-profit is established and running it stays “spot on” without a quiver.

When creating a nonprofit from the interior out you begin with a “picture” of what you eventually need the nonprofit to look like. It is also a good procedure to form a map of the things you want it to accomplish. These goals and the picture are a way to set a course of what the nonprofit will look like and be achieving once it is totally functional. At this point, I love to imagine the nonprofit engaged in each avenue practical. Make the vision grand and encompassing and create a masterpiece that anybody would like to be involved in.

Now you can begin working inside out as you create the non profit incorporation and know precisely how the nonprofit will operate, what it’s going to be involved in, and even how it’ll accomplish its mission. Like building a home, you now have the ability to start with the foundation, move on to the framework, and finish by moving in. You may even consider Fiscal Sponsorship when creating the nonprofit as the support helps to make it easier and quicker to make sudden changes in the structure or even the mission. Fiscal Sponsorship even allows you to start the nonprofit as an independent non profit incorporation at a time in the future, after you better know how the nonprofit will operate and be engaged in.

Save Money By Shopping For Garments At Charity Shops

Published by Owen Jones on July 5th, 2011 - in Non-Profit

Quite a few people, particularly families, tidy out their wardrobes of garments that are no longer worn at least once a year. They take these surplus clothes to shops supporting charities and good causes like Dr. Bernardo’s, The Salvation Army and Oxfam, who them check them for damage, launder them and resell them. The profits created are passed on to the pertinent good cause.

The point is, that these shops will not take ‘rubbish’ because they would not be able to resell it. They would actually lose money after laundering, displaying and dumping fees. Therefore you will not find clothing with rips, tears snags or stains on them. In fact, most clothes, including shoes are of very high quality.

Probably more than at any other time in the last fifty years, people are aware of the need to recycle things and, as money is short, a lot of people satisfy their need to contribute to charity with superfluous clothing instead. In the days when families were larger, clothes were recycled by handing them down, but in these days of 1.4 children, there is no one to pass them on to, apart from the charity shops.

Children grow up quickly, so it is not long before an item of clothing is of no more use to a family and it is such garments that are usually passed on. T-shirts and jumpers might be only six months old and some have never been worn, like that bright pink jumper that old great-uncle Fred bought for Johnny last Christmas and he refused to wear. But a young girl would love it. Sometimes, you can buy whole outfits for less than the price of one article in it.

Suits, jackets and overcoats are particularly good buys and come in all types of colours and styles. They are very expensive goods to purchase new, but can be a fifth of the cost in a charity shop. The trick with charity shops though is to call in habitually and often.

Because of the character of the business, charity shops do not carry racks of similar items in all the various sizes, rather, they have racks of one-offs. It is first come, first served, so it is best to check back repeatedly.

Do not be duped into thinking that you have to be destitute to shop at a charity shop. The charity shops have always refuted that image and many well-known people have said that they often shop there.

Sometimes, people are looking for a particular style, but it was last year’s and the large department stores no longer carry those items because they have moved on. Charity shops will have them. This can be a good way of picking up period accessories and costume jewellery.

Some of the larger charity shops also carry furniture and those shops can be very useful for finding a matching piece of something too. They are good for finding mirrors and occasional tables. Many charity shops stock a wide variety of last year’s books too. You can get a handful of recent books for the cost of one from a book store.

Youthful Philanthropists

Published by Chester L. Martinez on July 3rd, 2011 - in Non-Profit

Philanthropy is the thing that brings out the best in people, and inspires peace, change, and advancement in humanity. But is there more to charity than just donating generously to a cause? The other day I discovered that the original meaning of the word philanthropy is the love of humanity. Caring for humankind must therefore go along with the wish to support society.

On a fundamental plane, we are each united in our society, and that’s what altruism shows. In my opinion, it has the capability of proving that when we are charitable, we not only assist other people, we assist us, too. It’s the pinnacle of solidarity, as we make real our joint capability, individual by individual.

Humanitarianism seems to be turning into a more and more popular cause lately. Altruistic acts and an elevated standard for existence are two things that younger benefactors tend to put emphasis on. The other day I saw a story about Sara Bronfman, who focuses on making and supporting altruistic groups. Who knows why youthful people seem to aspire to philanthropy? Could it be there is more alertness of world issues because of recent technology and social media? Whatever the explanation, philanthropy seems to be contagious, as one philanthropic effort seems to inspire another.

Another contemporary innovator is Paul Newman, who established Newman’s Own. He built his company with health and philanthropy in mind, and has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to thousands of charities since the company started in 1982. One other person who has offered countless money to humanitarian associations is Warren Buffet.

But where is all this money going; and is this altruism actually effective? Philanthropic efforts certainly give support to society, but does the support persist over time? Is it at all likely that a philanthropic effort can influence humankind enduringly? A lot of current humanitarians are facing these questions and more, as certain problems plague society more and more. There just must be something we can do collectively to energize ourselves and assist others, too. What types of deeds would give influence to those who require it the most? I think a philanthropic endeavor that considers meeting a need, while giving the mechanisms needed to do for himself is a great way to start. There are many great endeavors that incorporate a set of tools, or help others build certain skills, so that their ability to be self-sustaining is greater. Considering all humanitarian deeds, these are the ones that will have a permanent influence on humankind.

City farms

Published by Billy Ingram on June 21st, 2011 - in Non-Profit

Ponies are just one of the many animals that can be found on city farms, and these great places are being introduced to cities all over the country. The farms are community run projects that are designed to allow children from inner cities to experience animals, and farming. The size of the farm varies greatly, and the amount of animals included will depend on this factor. Some farms have a huge variety of different animals from pigs, cows, ponies, and chickens to domestic animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, and dogs. Over three million people visit the city farms every year, and both adults and children gain a great deal from them. Some city farms are quite large, and are lucky to have a vast area.

However, others are restricted to a very small plot of land, and are often found within housing estates. No matter what size the city farm is they are all as valuable as each other. The visiting children and adults gain a great deal of education from the farms. They will learn about all of the animals, and how to care, feed, and look after them.

For many of the children who visit this is the only opportunity for them to see cows, chickens, and ponies. Alongside the animals that are kept at the farms if there is space there are often crops, and vegetables grown as well. The smaller animals such as the guinea pigs are always a big hit, and smaller children love spending time with them.

Many of the people who work, and run the city farms are volunteers, and they will give up their time to help the farm be a success. Some of the animals that are at the farms will be rescued, and re homed rather than them be destroyed. Many of the ponies will come from bad homes, and simply live out their days in the comfort, and love of the city farm.

The city farms are an amazing initiative to encourage people to learn more about animals, and farms. Many children that grow up in inner cities do not understand that the food in the stores actually comes from the farms. The city farms will offer a huge amount of training courses, and educational programs for the local people to enjoy.

Even the toughest of areas will benefit from having a city farm within it, and the organizers have proved that they bring the whole community together. No matter how large they are, or what they offer they have some form of benefit. The cows, chickens, and ponies will allow the children to fully understand what larger animals need to be cared for.

The smaller animals such as guinea pigs will allow the children to learn about small animal care, and being around these animals provide a sense of calm. Since the first city garden was established in 1972 there are now over 60 of them all over the country.

Whether they are small walled gardens providing vegetables, or large self sufficient farms they are all very popular. Far too many children never get the opportunity to see, and appreciate ponies, sheep, or cows. Having a city farm in your area will enable the whole neighborhood to come together, and volunteer to make it a huge success.

U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s ‘Toys for Tots’ Program

Published by Owen Jones on June 5th, 2011 - in Non-Profit

The U. S. Marine Corps Reserve has a sixty odd year old scheme to collect toys for tots from needy families both in the United States and in other countries. The aim is to save new unwrapped toys during October, November and December every year and then hand those toys out as Christmas presents to deprived children in the community in which the campaign is being carried out.

Their goal is to deliver a message of hope to underprivileged children in order to encourage them to become ‘responsible, productive, patriotic citizens’ in the words of their web site.

One of the foremost aims of Toys for Tots is to bond the communities where U.S Marine Reserve units are stationed for the three months of October, November and December every year in the collection and distribution of new toys to children from less well-off families in order to help them experience the joys of Christmas.

One of the aspirations is that the memory of receiving these presents every year will encourage the kids to recognize the value of the communities where they live and take an active part in those communities when they become older.

Communities where there is no detachment of U.S. marine Corps Reserves can also take part in the scheme but they should first register for authorization. These non-Marine groups will mostly, but not always, be ex-Marines.

These groups organize fund-raising events throughout the year in order to finance the purchase of new toys as donations of new toys do not always meet the organizations’ needs. These fund-raising events can include sports days, golfing tournaments, bicycle races, swimming tournaments et cetera.

Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks, USCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys for disadvantaged children in the local area.

The original concept sprang from Major Hendrick’s wife, Diane, who had made a doll for a needy child. She gave it to her husband to give to a suitable charity. When he could not find one, she recommended that he start one himself, so he did just that.

The next year Marine Corps Reserve units across the country adopted the plan and it has been actively providing toys to deprived tots ever since. Walt Disney got involved from the very beginning by designing the logo that the Marine Reserve charity still makes use of today.

Other celebrities to become involved in the early days were Nat ‘King’ Cole, Peggy Lee and Vic Damone, who recorded the Toys for Tots theme, which was written especially for the charity by Sammy Fain and Paul Webster.

Many celebrities have been played a part over the years. Celebrities like Bob Hope, John Wayne, Doris Day, Lorrie Morgan, Tim Allen, Kenny Rogers and Billy Ray Cyrus. First Lady Nancy Reagan acted as the national Spokesperson in 1983 and First Lady Barbara Bush served as the national Spokesperson in 1992. She wrote in her autobiography tenderly of her involvement with Toys for Tots and called it one of her favourite charities.

A Thoroughbred’s Life After Racing

Published by Ruth Williams on May 31st, 2011 - in Non-Profit

While there are thousands of horses bred to run flat and jump courses each year, only a very small percentage of these racehorses are successful enough to be destined for the breeding shed. However, it is possible to train a racehorse for a variety of other disciplines and the usefulness of these horses does not have to end with their racing careers. With the correct training and understanding of these horses, a racehorse can excel at dressage or be put to work as a successful hack, jumper, or eventer. Horses are intelligent and highly athletic creatures and can form great partnerships with their trainer.

What is important to remember when attempting to train a racehorse for a new job is the past training it has received. The horse has only ever been involved in racing up until this point. Working with an ex-racer requires patience and experience. Retraining a racehorse should not be attempted by inexperienced handlers or riders. These types of horses have only ever been taught to run and can also be highly strung so the combination of an ex-racehorse and a novice rider or trainer can produce dangerous situations for both the horse and the person.

Often, these horses will benefit from several months to a year of down time and relaxation before being placed into a new training program. The horse must also adapt physically to these changes. It is no longer being asked to run as fast as it can for as long as it can with a minimal weight upon its back. The new activities required of the horse such as hacking, jumping, flatwork and even pleasure riding require very different muscle groups than racing on the flat. Horses should be given time to adjust physically before they are pushed to perform in their new career so that they remain sound.

Racehorses will also need time to adjust mentally. Their new home and daily life of the horse is likely to be a lot different to what they were used to when they were racing. A big difference will be the length of time they are expected to carry riders, this will be considerably longer when the horse retrains.

There are various charities and organizations dedicated to taking in, looking after, and retraining ex-racers. These groups also work to promote racehorses and their suitability for a number of other disciplines within the equine world. The objective is to find the right horse for the right role, and finally the right owner. Such charitable groups endeavor to train a racehorse in order that it can continue to have a good, productive life regardless of if life on the racecourse is over.

Have you considered horse racing syndicates as a way of becoming a racehorse owner? This type of racehorse ownership enables you to own a share of a racehorse with the added benefit that the cost of the horse’s upkeep is split amongst all the members.
